Being an au pair entails a lot of sacrifices but a lot of benefits also that come along with it. Firstly, you will be separated from your loved ones and live in a strange land. But the good thing that comes with it is you would have a chance to go abroad and learn another language, earn and at the same time you would find yourself loved and accepted as a new member in the host family you work in. So it is a necessity that you should find the perfect one for you. How are you going to contact the host if you find one? In this article we will tackle some of the things you need to take note in order to approach the perfect family.
First, you have to remember that you could sign up in a trusted website which caters both for au pairs and host families. In those sites you could find a best match, the best host family for you posted online.
If you choose to find a host family through a website, you need to sign up as an au pair. You would be seeing on the website profiles of recommended host families which you could contact. You could send a message and send an application to the family you are interested to work in. The family would review your application. Once they see that you fit their family and requirements, they would email or call you for a phone interview or Skype interview.
Don’t be nervous during interview, though you would probably feel it, but remember to relax and just be true to them. You need to put your best foot forward by telling them your best skills, but you just have to be honest with them. Don’t try to tell them that you can do this or that, or you have this skill just to impress them, when the truth is you are not capable of doing the things you are boasting of. Remember, honesty is the best policy. It is also best for you to prepare some questions you want to ask the family, so you would know if the possible family would be a good match for you.
After the phone or Skype interview, each of you has time to assess if you are best match for each other.
When both of you agreed mutually, all the necessary things such as visa paperwork and travel arrangements would follow next. Most of the times, the host family would help you do the paper works until you are able to start finally being with them as an au pair, as a new part of their family.
